Jack Beaumont
Rower // Men's Squad
Date of Birth: 21st Nov 1993 (32 years old)
Club: Leander Club
Height: 188.00
Hometown: Maidenhead
Jack Beaumont has progressed through the GB Rowing Team age groups to firmly establish himself as one of the country鈥檚 best scullers.
Beaumont, who is the son of Olympic rower Peter Beaumont, won European Championships bronze during 2015 and is also a former World U23 medallist.
He聽made his own Olympic debut at the Rio 2016 Games, as a last-minute replacement for the ill Graeme Thomas, and will be looking to build on that experience as the countdown to Tokyo 2020 begins.
At the first World Cup of the 2017 season he began well, winning a bronze medal in the men’s quad with Tom Barras, Jonny Walton and John Collins. Victory came at World Cup II in Poznan, with Peter Lambert subbed in for Barras, and the quad completed the set in Lucerne by winning silver behind Lithuania.
The crew were within touching distance of an historic gold medal at the World Championships in Sarasota-Bradenton, where, even after a last-second injury to Lambert, the quad took an incredible silver medal with Thomas stepping in as substitute.

Rio 2016 Olympiad: 2013 – 2016
Beaumont recovered from a serious injury sustained in a training accident to enjoy an eventful 2016 international season, which culminated in his Olympic debut. He was selected with Nick Middleton in the second GB men’s double scull, reaching the final and finishing sixth at the World Cups in both Varese and Lucerne. That second sixth place came just two hours after Beaumont had been subbed into the men’s quad at the last minute when聽Peter Lambert was taken ill on the morning of the race. Despite the short preparation time, the quad went on to win a superb silver. Beaumont聽then switched to the single scull for the Poznan World Cup, winning the B final to finish seventh overall.
After the unfortunate Graeme Thomas was taken ill just four days before the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Beaumont聽answered the call and flew out to Brazil to take his place in the men’s quad scull alongside Sam Townsend, Angus Groom and Lambert. They finished fourth in their heat but improved throughout the regatta聽and were strong runners-up in their repechage before finishing a fine fifth overall with a battling effort in the final.
Peter Lambert, Sam Townsend, Jack Beaumont and Graeme Thomas won men's quadruple scull bronze at the 2015 European Championships in Poznan
In 2015, Beaumont won the men鈥檚 single scull B final at the GB Rowing Team Senior Trials, and聽was selected as a spare for the European Championships in Poznan. However, an injury to Charles Cousins saw him step into the men鈥檚 quad scull with Townsend, Thomas and Lambert. They set a new championship record in the repechage before winning bronze in the final.
Beaumont聽then raced in the single scull at both the Varese World Cup, placing 14th, and the World Rowing U23 Championships in Plovdiv. He impressed throughout and was desperately unlucky to miss out on a medal in a blanket finish to a closely fought final, placing fifth.
That was Beaumont’s fourth visit to the World U23s and his third during this Olympiad. In 2013 he聽was fourth in the men鈥檚 quad before winning a fine men鈥檚 double sculls bronze with Groom in Varese the following year. They had made their senior debuts together in the double earlier in the 2014 season at the Aiguebelette World Cup, finishing 13th.
Beaumont聽– who has helped Leander Club to the Prince of Wales Challenge Cup at the past four Henley Royal Regattas – also enjoyed success at the 2013 Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney, winning gold in the single sculls, silver in the men鈥檚 quad sculls and bronze in the men鈥檚 eights.
London 2012 Olympiad: 2009 鈥 2012
Beaumont聽made his GB Rowing Team debut at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Racice, finishing just outside the medals in a men鈥檚 quad that also included Angus Groom.
He was then part of the quad that finished seventh at the following year鈥檚 World Juniors in Eton Dorney before stepping up to the World U23 Championships in 2012, where he finished seventh again in the men鈥檚 double with Jonny Walton.

Beyond the Boat
Beaumont聽was persuaded to take up rowing by dad, Peter, who was a member of the British men鈥檚 eight which finished just outside the medals at the Seoul 1988 Olympic Games. He says, 鈥淚nitially, I was smaller than everyone so I didn鈥檛 enjoy it as I kept losing!鈥
He is currently studying part-time for a BSc in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Birkbeck College, University of London. 鈥淚鈥檓 not 100 per cent sure what I want to do after rowing, probably either teaching or policing.鈥
He also聽works part-time repairing boats at ES Rowing Services in Berkshire and also likes to play guitar when he can find the time. A big Metallica fan, his ergo playlist includes a lot of heavy metal 鈥 鈥渋t gets very mixed reactions鈥.
Beavis and Butt-Head Do America is his favourite film 鈥 鈥渟tuff like that is especially good when I鈥檓 tired after training鈥 鈥 and his favourite books are The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and To Kill a Mockingbird.
Beaumont聽is Lottery funded through UK Sport and previously undertook an Advanced Apprenticeship in Sport (AASE).
