Lauren Henry wins silver in women鈥檚 single sculls medal
Great Britain end 2025 World Rowing Championships second on medal table with eight medals
Great Britain added a silver medal to its World Championships tally in Shanghai as Lauren Henry finished second, just 0.03 seconds behind Ireland in the Women鈥檚 single sculls final. Lauren has won a medal at every race this season, making a strong mark in her first season in this boat class.
Speaking after the race, she said, 鈥淥bviously, I’m really pleased to come away with a medal, but it is disappointing. I said I was coming here for the gold, and it鈥檚 sad to miss out by less than a centimetre. All credit to Fiona [Murtagh], she’s a fantastic sculler.
鈥淚’m going to use this during the winter and聽 come back better and stronger next season. Hopefully, I can win that elusive women鈥檚 single sculling gold for Great Britain at a World Championships.鈥

Earlier in the regatta, the GB Rowing Team won seven medals. Golds came from Benjamin Pritchard in the PR1 Men鈥檚 single sculls, the Men鈥檚 four, and the PR3 Mixed coxed four. Silvers were won by the Men鈥檚 and Women鈥檚 quadruple sculls and the Men鈥檚 eight, while the Women鈥檚 eight collected a bronze medal.
Also racing today were Sam Murray and Annie Caddick who narrowly missed out on the podium, finishing in fourth place in the PR3 mixed double sculls final.

Louise Kingsley, GB Rowing Team鈥檚 Director of Performance, said: 鈥淲hat a successful start to the LA cycle. We鈥檝e seen medals won by our Men鈥檚, Women鈥檚, and Paralympic squads and impressive performances across the team. Of the 37 athletes who made the podium, we have twenty one athletes who are bringing home medals from their first-ever World Championships, showing that the pathway is strong, and I鈥檓 excited to see how they all build on this as we work through the cycle.
鈥淭his event has come with some challenges. The heat out here is one of them. But the 鈥榯eam behind the team鈥, the coaches and support staff, have all pulled together to ensure the athletes made it to the start line brilliantly well prepared. The performances we have seen out here in Shanghai would not have been possible without their efforts – a big thank you to them!鈥
