Lauren Henry and Women鈥檚 Pair excel in Lucerne
Two more Great Britain crews through to Sunday鈥檚 finals at World Rowing Cup – Lucerne
Saturday 28 June 2025 – The Women鈥檚 single sculls and Women鈥檚 pair are both into Sunday鈥檚 A finals at World Rowing Cup Lucerne. They join the Men鈥檚 quadruple sculls and both Women鈥檚 four crews who progressed directly to finals on Friday.
尝别颈肠别蝉迟别谤鈥檚 Lauren Henry once again led her women鈥檚 single sculls (W1x) race from the start, she pulled ahead to maintain her lead and comfortably win the semi final, in the fastest time across both races.
Lauren said: 鈥淭hat was another good row for me. The conditions were a bit strange, it was like a headwind, then it swung around, so then quite a nice tailwind. But it鈥檚 the聽 same for everyone, you have to just race the conditions and it was another good tick in the box for me.
She continued: 鈥淚 feel I have a lot more to give. We’re confident that there’s things we can improve on in training. There are things that we’re continually working on at Caversham, and I don鈥檛 feel like I鈥檝e peaked for the season. It’s definitely a work in progress, it’s teamwork and I鈥檓 just loving it. I feel so fortunate to be doing it. It’s always been a dream. I enjoy it every day. I’m working with the best coach in Andrew (Randell), he’s basically so much fun and we have so much fun seeing where the limits are and trying to push those limits.鈥
Eleanor Brinkhoff and Megan Slabbert led through much of the Women鈥檚 Pair (W2-) semi final, and held off a charge from the USA to finish in second behind the Czechia crew. The quality and intensity of racing promises for an exciting final tomorrow.
鈥淭hat was pretty tough. I’m not going to lie.鈥 Eleanor said, 鈥淚 think we knew going into it that four crews would be close and that it would be a tight finish, and it was. But聽 we spoke about how we could tighten up some areas yesterday and I think we managed to do that, so that we could secure the A final, which was the big goal for today.鈥
Megan added: 鈥淚t’s really exciting to be in that position at the finish – with a close race and no one wanting to make it easy. Otherwise it’s no fun. So we’ll tighten it up again tomorrow and see what happens in the final.鈥
It鈥檚 the B final for Jake Wincomb, Dan Graham, James Vogel and Joshua Bowesman-Jones who kept up with the pack but couldn鈥檛 hold on in the Men鈥檚 four (M4-) semi final, narrowly finishing in fourth place.
Tobias Schr枚der and Jamie Gare Men鈥檚 double sculls (M2x) were fourth in their semi final and will race again in the B final. It will also be a B final for both Women鈥檚 Double Sculls (W2x) crews after Sarah McKay and Lola Anderson (GBR1) finished fourth and Cam Nyland and Vwair茅 Obukohwo (GBR2) finished sixth in their respective semi finals. Tom Barras (GBR2) was also sixth in his Men鈥檚 single sculls (M1x) semi final.
Aidan Thompson (GBR1), continued to build his speed and experience, finishing 15th overall in the Men鈥檚 single sculls (M1x) C final.
